A devastating flood has hit ten districts in Bangladesh, severely affecting around 5.8 million people. As floodwaters continue to wreak havoc, many organizations and individuals are stepping up to provide relief.
Maulana Ibrahim Khalil, the General Secretary of HCSB, reports that urgent needs have emerged in areas such as Naterpetua Union in Feni District, and several regions in Noakhali and Comilla. Approximately 30,000 individuals in these areas require dry food and essential supplies. HCSB is working diligently to deliver crucial items including baby food, candles, lighters, tissues, and napkins. They are also providing medicines, cooked food, rice, pulses, oil, onions, and potatoes to those affected.
Prof. Amirul Islam, the Executive Director of HCSB, has announced the establishment of a temporary relief camp at the Bangladesh Open University’s sub-regional center, located opposite the Feni District Commissioner’s office. This camp serves as a central hub for storing and distributing relief supplies across various affected regions.
In response to the health needs of flood victims, experienced medical professionals are on the ground. Mashiur Rahman, the head of the ENT department at Khidmah Hospital and Vice President of HCSB, is overseeing medical care. They are distributing medicines for a range of illnesses and have arranged inhalers for those suffering from breathing issues and asthma.
Director Muhammad Raj highlighted the initial focus on distributing dry food. However, the relief efforts have now expanded to providing three meals a day at shelters. HCSB is also distributing essential items like rice, dal, oil, onions, potatoes, salt, and spices to villages where water levels have begun to recede. Raj noted that despite recent illness, he joined the team personally to assist with these efforts.
To reach remote areas, HCSB has deployed a 50-feet long trawler and a medium boat from Dhaka. Volunteers are working tirelessly, walking, swimming, and pulling boats through challenging conditions to ensure relief supplies reach the most isolated communities.
HCSB is preparing to send two additional teams tomorrow to further s
upport flood victims. These teams will focus on distributing cooked food and relief items in Daganbhuana and Lakshmipur districts in Feni, ensuring that assistance continues to reach those in need.
Hafezzi Charitable Society of Bangladesh is a non-political, non-profit organization registered with the government (Registration No. S138779/22). Known for its transparency, HCSB consistently makes its accounting and audit reports available to the public, reinforcing its commitment to effective and accountable relief efforts.
In conclusion, HCSB remains at the forefront of providing vital support to flood victims in Bangladesh, showcasing their dedication and efficiency in times of crisis.
